Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to common questions about Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
Getting Started
What is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (mHBOT)?
Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a wellness practice involving breathing air with increased oxygen concentration in a comfortable pressurized chamber at mild pressure levels (Up to 2.0 ATA (commonly 1.3–1.5 ATA)). It focuses on general wellness and health support, not medical applications.
How is mHBOT different from medical hyperbaric oxygen therapy?
mHBOT operates at significantly lower pressures (Up to 2.0 ATA (commonly 1.3–1.5 ATA) vs 2.4-6 ATA for medical-grade) and uses ambient or moderately enriched air rather than 100% medical-grade oxygen. mHBOT is designed for wellness purposes and does not require a prescription.
Safety & Protocols
Is mHBOT safe?
When operated according to established safety standards and protocols, mHBOT is generally considered safe for most individuals. Facilities should follow proper equipment maintenance, safety procedures, and user screening protocols.
What are common contraindications?
Common contraindications include active upper respiratory infections, untreated pneumothorax, certain ear or sinus conditions, severe claustrophobia, uncontrolled seizures, recent ear surgery, and pregnancy. Always consult facility staff and your healthcare provider if you have concerns.
Sessions & Experience
How long does a typical session last?
Most wellness sessions last between 60 to 90 minutes, including time for gradual pressurization, the main session period at target pressure, and gentle depressurization.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. Most facilities recommend avoiding items with metal zippers or buttons. Remove jewelry, watches, and electronic devices unless specifically permitted by the facility.
